The Restaurant
The Old Vicarage Dolfor as well as offering the finest B&B accommodation for Newtown, Mid Wales & Powys, is also a restaurant with an entry in The Good Food Guide.
Here you can enjoy dinner prepared and served by the owners, Tim and Helen Withers. Their pedigree is impeccable; they worked with Joyce Molyneux, whose Carved Angel at Dartmouth was one of the country's best restaurants in the 1970's and 1980's. Simon Hopkinson once wrote of Tim's ethereal cheese soufflé baked with parmesan and cream, describing it as possibly the finest example outside of the kitchens of Le Gavroche.

It is fully licensed and benefits from the many excellent small local and organic producers to be found here in Mid Wales. In addition this Newtown restaurant has its own kitchen garden and polytunnel, supplying vegetables, salads and herbs for the table during the growing season. Their own hens produce lovely golden yoked eggs to embellish a leisurely organic breakfast in the restaurant, basking in the morning sun with views over the front garden and the hills beyond.
The daily changing menu reflects the seasons and dietary requirements of guests. For those looking for a lighter supper, there is the option of a cold plate at £17. This maybe ideal if you are going to the theatre at Hafren or concert at Gregynog. Tim does all the cooking on a reconditioned AGA and Helen looks after the front of house.
Wines are largely organic, beers local, and spirits Welsh.
The restaurant can seat up to 12 and as we are open to non-residents, a room booking does not guarantee a table. Likewise when the rooms are busy, non-residents may be faced with a full restaurant.
