One Wales: One Planet states that in Wales, sustainable development means enhancing the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of people and communities, achieving a better quality of life for our own and future generations:
The Old Vicarage recognises its responsibility to help effect the above. In promoting visitors to the region it benefits the socio-economic climate but at the same time has a negative impact on the environment. To that end the Old Vicarage is committed to policies which try to reduce its carbon footprint. These are works in progress, dependent on financial stability and include improving energy efficiency, reducing waste and switching to green energy. Recycling and composting all vegetable and food waste is a priority; the hens and kitchen garden contribute to zero food miles and the guest’s experience. Local and organic foods are sourced where possible helping to create a sense of place, improve the local economy and reduce food miles.
Special offers are in place to encourage guests to arrive by bicycle, rather than a motor vehicle and the use of public transport either by train and or bus is easily attainable. As each year goes by, The Old Vicarage hopes to achieve in becoming a more sustainable tourism business.
